Protocol 2000+
What is Protocol 2000+?
Protocol 2000+ was introduced to standardise the measurement of air compressors in order that consumers are able to select the most appropriate compressor for their application.
The measurement used is "Free Air Delivery" or FAD, which is a measure of the amount of air a compressor delivers under normal operating conditions, measured in litres per minute.

You can be sure the product you are buying is accurately specified by looking for the Protocol 2000+ sticker, which looks like this:
Suppliers who use this label follow a Code of Practice to protect the consumer.
Protocol 2000+ Code of Practice
Members of the CAAA and Protocol 2000+ Participants agree to:
Improve the integrity of the compressed air industry by setting the standard for best-practice air compressors which comply with all relevant Federal and State Standards or Regulations
Encourage other manufacturers, assemblers, and importers to join CAAA and to adhere to this Agreement
Continually improve the standards of the industry by regular member communication, including using best endeavours to make representation at a minimum of one Association meeting per year
Where the member distributes piston compressors of pump displacement less than 2400L/minute;
Use the Australian Standard 4637 to test each compressor model according to the Free Air Delivery method
Use the AS's FAD measure to display units' performance via FAD or FAD and Pump Displacement (PD) via the CAAA proprietary lebls affixed to each unit Note: The AS requires the PD and FAD be displayed in litres/min
Use best endeavours* and to ensure where possible, that advertising accurately reflects the FAD of the machine *"Best endeavours" should include, at a minimum, the member sending the standard Member-Distributor Advertising Letter to its distributors and the CAAA, a copy of which appears in the Appendix
Promote FAD as the best measure of a compressor's performance to its suppliers and customers
Notwhithstanding the above, the provisions of ISO 1217 (Displacement Compressors - Acceptance Tests) will prevail where required, and be acceptable under this Protocol.
